a note on code; a note on sheets

I figured out, finally, that there’s a <cite> tag in HTML. The way the tag works –well, just roll your mouse over the word “HTML,” there. Note how it’s italicized? And when your mouse is over it, a little tag shows up telling you that HTML stands for “HyperText Markup Language”? (That’s true.) That’s what a cite tag does. (See here: HTML cite Tag from Quackit.com.)

Now, presumably (based on the name), the intention was to be able to show a citation — but honestly, that seems odd to me. (Citations should come in the form of links, or at least footnotes/parenthetical documentation.) But as far as the tag goes, and as far as I intend to use it, it seems a really effective way of showing translations. So if you see a word in italics, and it seems to be in spanish (como aquí, ¿no?), roll your mouse over it and see if I’ve provided a translation.

This is essentially an extension of the title subset of most HTML tags — I can link to my website and explain what I’m doing when you roll your mouse over it; a lot of webcomics already use this technique to make secondary jokes when you mouse over their images. (Mouseover, with or without a space, is a phrase used in terms of web programming. It’s pretty self-explanatory, no?) I still want to figure out a way to do this without making text italic or changing it in any way — but I guess if I did that, you wouldn’t really be able to know that you could mouseover it in the first place. And a similar tag already exists for abbreviations — <abbr> — so instead I could’ve written HTML and gotten a similar result. But now I’m digressing, I think.

Secondly, and simply, I did my laundry today, washing my sheets and towels. And then I hung them on the clothesline that extends from my window across the courtyard to the kitchen. I know, I know, lots of people do this every day. But I’d never done it before (for clothing, we have clothesracks in this flat, as well as everywhere else I’ve ever lived; in the States we use dryers for sheets and towels), so shut up and let me be pleased.

Last night I went out with Angie (from HC) and some of her friends. It was a nice time. I continue to really like Angie.
